Popular Nigerian comedian and social commentator Adebowale Babatunde “Debo” Adedayo, popularly known by his stage name Mr Macaroni, has expressed disappointment with the country’s political space, saying it seems to corrupt even the most respected individuals.
Speaking about his views on politics in Nigeria, Mr Macaroni said he was discouraged by how some individuals he once admired and respected entered politics and allegedly damaged their legacies.
According to him, the political environment in Nigeria has made him question whether he wants to become involved in politics.
“I look at Nigeria, and I don’t think I want to get into the political space because it seems like the political space in Nigeria corrupts the very best of us,” he said.
Mr Macaroni also criticised what he described as Nigerians’ growing acceptance of difficult living conditions.
He cited the rising cost of fuel as an example, noting that although Nigerians often express anger over such issues, public outrage tends to fade quickly.
“Okay, look at fuel price now, the wahala wey everybody dey shout. Everybody will just talk, one, two days, next thing, e don go, we don move on,” he said.
The comedian further questioned the popular saying that anyone who can survive in Nigeria can survive anywhere.
“Nigerians take pride in telling you, ah, if you can survive in Nigeria, you can survive anywhere. It’s not something to brag about,” he said.
His comments have renewed discussions about political accountability, public participation, and the need for Nigerians to demand better living conditions rather than simply adapting to hardship.
