“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ended his working vacation and has already departed Paris, France, for the homeward journey to Nigeria.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Paris, France, for Nigeria after concluding his working vacation, with his aircraft expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, later today.
Tinubu’s departure was disclosed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Onanuga noted that the President chose to fly to Lagos first to honour the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 1993 presidential election and a prominent figure in Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
He said Tinubu is expected to attend the premiere of a movie celebrating Abiola on Independence Day at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
The statement revealed that the President will also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates during his stay in Lagos as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.
Onanuga added that Tinubu would return to Abuja after concluding his political engagements in Lagos.
He noted that the President left Abuja on August 30 for the working vacation and spent one week in London before proceeding to Paris.
According to him, while in Paris, Tinubu attended a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and held meetings with business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group, whose media and digital interests include Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group.
The statement added that Tinubu also met with Femi Otedola, Chairman of First Holdings, on Monday.
The statement further disclosed that Tinubu last week witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the construction of a Gateway deep seaport in Ogun Waterside and the creation of a Blue Marine Economic Zone in the area.
The statement noted that DP World, one of the world’s leading ports and logistics operators, plans to invest $7 billion in the proposed seaport and economic zone.
